This book presents a comprehensive overview of food and nutrition planning in North Sulawesi Province for the period 2025–2029. Despite its abundant natural resources, particularly in agriculture, fisheries, and marine sector, the region faces significant food and nutrition challenges. North Sulawesi is currently burdened by a dual nutritional problem: a high prevalence of stunting among children (42.4%) and obesity among adults (58.4%).

Based on the Desirable Dietary Pattern (DDP) analysis, both food availability and consumption in the region fall short of national standards, with scores of 62.3 and 87.1, respectively. Tubers and legumes now contribute only a small percentage to daily energy intake. This decline is largely attributed to a shift in food preferences among younger generations, who favor rice as the primary staple. The book highlights the importance of restoring these underutilized local crops to address the region's nutritional gaps.

To respond to this issue, the book outlines strategic, community-driven interventions aimed at increasing the consumption of tubers and legumes. These include school-based nutrition education, household-level cultivation, and the promotion of value-added local food products. A multisectoral collaboration, engaging agriculture, health, education, and trade stakeholders, is emphasized as essential for program success. The book serves as a critical reference for policymakers, nutritionists, educators, and development practitioners, offering a clear roadmap toward dietary diversification, improved nutritional status, and sustainable food security in North Sulawesi.
